An invaluable resource
The river Vie has its source in Belleville-sur-Vie. This small coastal river meanders through several communes as far as Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie.
Downstream from Apremont, it flows peacefully through the meadows. Difficult to access, the fisherman has to walk a little to approach the banks of the Vie. Nevertheless, he appreciates his arrival at the sight of the numerous species of fish present in the river. Moreover, large specimens are caught every year.
The top 5 most caught species : pike, pike-perch, perch, carp, white fish species (roach, bream, bleak)
Its fishy waters attract more than one species of bird :
- Little egret
- Grey heron,
- The European otter (very rare).
The lake of Apremont
Built in 1966, the Apremont dam forms the reservoir of the lake. With its 166 hectares, the Apremont lake is one of the largest in the Vendée and a real migratory stopover.
It is necessary to walk to the tail of the dam, this place is favourable to the contemplation of the migratory birds :
In late summer, when the water level drops, this reservoir is a good site for observing waders, the Eurasian Spoonbill and the Caspian Tern.
